About Our Company

Kate Clancy
Kate is a Licensed Cadastral Surveyor and joined The Surveying Company in 2012 after returning from the UK. After graduating from Otago University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Surveying she went on to work in Palmerston North where she became a Licensed Cadastral Surveyor and a full member of Survey and Spatial New Zealand. Kates experience ranges from small New Zealand consultancies to large scale engineering and construction projects in the United Kingdom.
Kates areas of specialisation include Resource Consent Planning, Land Transfer Surveying and Project Management.
Kate’s family has a long history in the Hutt Valley region and with plenty of family around it’s a great place to live and bring up a family.

Emma Shelley
Emma started with The Surveying Company in 2016 as the Office Administrator and over the years has transitioned into her new role as Project Coordinator, working alongside the Project Managers to ensure we continue to deliver our work on each project to the high standard we are proud of.
Emma came to this role with 20 years of customer service and administration experience which helps ensure our clients are always treated to the friendly service that she is well known for.
Outside of work, Emma enjoys spending time with her two beautiful daughters, or getting lost in a good book.

Frances Stannard
Frances has over 10 years’ experience as a surveyor. She spent some time in Australia upon graduating from university, working on several marinas, land development and construction projects around Central Queensland. Since returning to NZ she has gained cadastral surveying, planning and engineering experience. She has been involved with legalisation and topographical surveys, as well as construction projects around the Wellington region including the airport and cycleway projects, and worked as a construction surveyor in Kaikoura post-earthquake. She have a particular interest in engineering and project surveying and enjoys marine and coastal surveys.
Outside of work Frances enjoys football, getting into the outdoors, and spending time in and around the ocean with her young whānau.

Rowan Archbald
Rowan joined The Surveying Company in 2010 as a graduate surveyor straight out of university. Rowan graduated Otago with a Bachelor of Surveying and is a member of Survey and Spatial New Zealand. Rowan is highly skilled in all aspects of cadastral surveying, including GPS field work, processing, calculations and plan draughting. Before graduating Rowan spent some time in Western Australia on large surveying and engineering projects. Back in New Zealand he has been involved in projects for the Christchurch rebuild and closer to home large multi unit housing developments in the region.
Rowan’s areas of specialisation include, leading our survey team, complex Land Transfer Surveys/Cadastral Surveying and survey data management.
Outside of work Rowan enjoys spending time with his family, all things DIY and the outdoors – tramping, hunting, fishing and sport, which makes surveying the perfect profession for him!

Joseph Mitchell
Joseph joined The Surveying Company in early 2021 as a Civil & Surveying Designer. His career working for consultancies started in 2006 & since then has worked for various Engineering firms as a CAD designer on a wide range of projects across New Zealand & the wider Asian Pacific region. In 2014 he graduated from Weltec with a NZDE (Civil) while working full time.
At The Surveying Company he is involved with developing and designing subdivision scheme plans and Engineering approvals for a wide variety of developments across the region.
Joseph is a born Wellingtonian and he enjoys spending time with family & friends.

Aakriti Nahar
Aakriti is our full-time civil technician and designer who started with TSC in early 2023. She graduated from Punjab Technical University in 2016 with a B.Eng. (Civil) . After working overseas in contracting firms, she moved to New Zealand in 2019. Aakriti obtained her Graduate Diploma in Project Management from Western Institute of Technology, Taranaki. She is involved in developing subdivisions scheme plans and Engineering approvals for a wide variety of developments across the region. She is also working towards her Master’s in Civil Engineering.
Outside work , she enjoys going hiking and long drives.

Brett Simonsen
Brett joined The Surveying Company in September 2013. He has many years experience as a survey technician in the Wellington Region working for a large multi disciplinary firm. Brett is skilled in all aspects of surveying work and specialises in computer aided design.
Bretts areas of specialisation include Topographical surveys, GPS surveys, Land Transfer Surveys/Cadastral Surveying, Survey data management, CAD design and draughting.
Outside of work Brett enjoys spending time with his family exploring the great outdoors around Wellington.

Lynette Subritzky
Lynette is our friendly office administrator, who is the first person you will see when arriving at our Upper Hutt office. Lynette joined The Surveying Company in 2022 and is our go-to person for any administrative tasks – just whatever needs doing, Lynette is there to make it happen.
She comes to us with customer service, small business ownership and an administrative background, which gives her so many different skills which are of great value to the team and our clients.
In her own time you will most likely find her in her garden or talking about it! Lynette also enjoys relaxing with a good book, going for a bush walk and, most of all, spending time with her grown family.

Taylor Smith
Taylor is our full time Survey Cadet who started with us in 2020. He is also completing his New Zealand Diploma in Surveying extramurally through Toi-Ohomai. Taylor assists our field survey team as well as learning the ropes so he can get out on his own. We look forward to watching him grow in this role.
In his personal time, he enjoys an active social life with friends.

Tom Robinson
Tom has been with The Surveying Company for many years and whilst with the business gained his Diploma in Surveying. Tom is an experienced Surveyor, skilled in all aspects of surveying work with a strong building and construction background.
Toms areas of specialisation include Topographical surveys, GPS surveys, Land Transfer Surveys/Cadastral Surveying and Construction set out surveying.
Outside of work Tom enjoys all sports, travel, spending time with his family and always has a project or two on the go.

James Tobias
James is a designer and draftsperson with experience across civil, structural, and process drafting relating to three waters infrastructure, treatment, and underground services. James has a background in AutoCAD and Civil 3D and has worked with telco and water utility operators in Australia and New Zealand in both design and construction management capacities.
Outside of work, James enjoys spending time with family, and enjoying the scenery and night skies of the Hutt Valley.
